Get Global Recognition with CISSP Certification

In today’s generation, information sharing has never been this easy. Anyone who is computer-literate and has access to computers, mobile devices and other gadgets can share all kinds of data with other users anywhere in the world. Companies employ new technologies that allow them to easily disseminate information to their employees, clients, and business partners. It is indeed amazing to see how technology continues to evolve and improve how businesses work and how individuals live their daily lives.

However, this advancement poses many threats and security risks – privacy being one of them. That’s why employers invest a lot in making sure that their networks and technologies are secure and safe from any outside intrusion. The Information Security profession has seen increasing demands in the last decade to match the growing need of companies for privacy and security.

To help companies identify highly qualified professionals, the International Information Security Systems Certification Consortium, Inc., (ISC)2, has introduced CISSP or the Certified Information Systems Security Professional. This is a title given to professionals in the Information Security field who have met certain qualifications – passed the CISSP exam, has at least five years of experience in the field, and is endorsed by another CISSP.

The CISSP exam evaluates the individual’s working knowledge in the following ten CBK domains – Access Control, Telecommunications and Network Security, Information Security Governance and Risk Management, Software Development Security, Cryptography, Security Architecture and Design, Operations Security, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning, Legal, Regulations, Investigations and Compliance, and Physical (Environmental) Security. These 10 areas in the CISSP Certification cover all the functions that Information Security professionals are expected to perform.

For professionals, gaining the CISSP credential is highly valuable as it adds credibility and increases their market value. A global study on professionals who hold the CISSP designation shows an average of 30% increase in salary compared to those in similar positions who are not CISSPs. This certification attests that the person has the right experience and competency in implementing security solutions. Being a CISSP also denotes that the person is committed to the profession. The Certified Information Systems Security Professional program allows access to numerous resources being offered by (ISC)2 to keep professionals informed and updated with the latest news in the industry.

For employers, hiring certified professionals similarly increases credibility with partners, vendors and stakeholders. The certification ensures that the hired professionals are in sync with the latest updates and recent practices in the industry. Hence, this puts confidence on the employers’ side that the CISSPs are able to implement effective solutions should they be faced by security issues.

Like other licenses and certifications, CISSP has a validity period of three years. The certified professional either has to take the exam once again to renew the credential or submit a minimum of 120 continuing professional education (CPE) credits every three years.  At least 20 of these CPE credits must be posted each year. There is also an annual maintenance fee of $85 to keep the CISSP qualification in good standing.

Although there are a number of requirements needed in order to gain the CISSP credential and maintain it, this certification offers global recognition to all the professionals carrying the title. The benefits the CISSP Certification provides are worth more than every penny spent to acquire it.
