Joy of the Week: Hulu Plus

200427266-001I’ve already talked about Video on Demand services in another article, specifically Amazon Instant Video. With its myriad of features and ease of access, it’s definitely a great choice if you’re constantly traveling around due to your work obligations like me, and just want to hit the sack as soon as you get to your hotel room and watch some great shows before letting sweet, sweet sleep take in.

We also mentioned that, while Amazon’s video on demand service may not be the best one in terms of content, it features tons of benefits if you’re a regular shopper at their website. But that’s all past tense; what I want to talk to you about this time around is the wonder that is Hulu Plus.

Benefits  and convenience of Hulu

I’m talking about an ad-supported American video on demand service that offers a solid amount of content to all its subscribers. With over 1,650 TV shows and 2,500 movies, Hulu Plus is definitely a rising force to be reckoned with. And this could all be yours as soon as you click that big green subscribe button on their website!

The big video on demand service provider to rule them all when it comes down to movies has always been Netflix, with an extensive collection available to all of its subscribers. But TV shows are where it’s at on Hulu Plus. While you have to wait for the entire season of your favorite shows to end in order to view them on Netflix, Hulu charms its subscribers by instantly airing the episodes the day after they’re shown on TV! Now, I’m not saying I have any patience, but am I really going to wait 9 months for my favorite TV shows to come on Amazon? No, not me.

I know lots of you might be huge movie buffs, but I also believe that a great number of consumers are avid followers of the TV show scene. If you belong to the latter group, then Hulu Plus is definitely the right option for you. TV shows and series are Hulu’s absolute defining point and strongest feature. They also feature several exclusive-to-Hulu shows that you won’t find anywhere else.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. There’s no denying that if you use Hulu Plus, you’re going to have to sit through several brief ads, as this is the way the network can sustain itself, but the upside of this is that it’s totally free! You read that right; you don’t have to pay a single penny if you don’t want to. Of course, the free version has its drawbacks, like not being able to access it from your smartphone or other mobile device. Also, not all shows are available without paying the subscription fee, but still, it’s a sight for sore eyes when the limited selection of channels of your hotel room isn’t cutting it anymore.

The price tag isn’t so heavy either, you only need to pay $7.99 monthly to enjoy all the benefits of the Plus package, which includes unlimited access to the full library of shows and movies at different qualities (480p, 720p, etc.), allowing for all types of internet connections, as not all may be able to effectively stream at higher qualities. The drawback is that, even with a Hulu Plus subscription, you’ll still need to sit through brief periods of advertising, but again, this is just how the network sustains itself and even so, they’re not long enough to be actually intolerable.

I personally recommend giving Hulu Plus a look if you’re that type of person that, like me, is constantly travelling due to work, and is just looking for a way to get a quick respite from all that work. You won’t be disappointed!
