Joy of the Week: Amazon Instant Video

200452901-001Road life is never easy; when people first hear how much I travel for work they always think I have the most exciting life.

It could just be who I am, but after a hard day of training my students the last thing I want to do is explore whatever new destination I have found myself at.

Benefits Of Amazon

What I want to do is go back to my hotel, turn off my mind and be entertained for a few hours. The hotel TV is an option, but there are far too many commercials, and you don’t get to pick what is on. Instead i’ve found an alternative i’m growing increasingly fond of:With Amazon Instant Video, the entertainment is brought to you the moment you click that “subscribe button”. With roughly over 40.000 TV shows & movies to its name, Amazon Instant Video is a true contender to long-time video on demand market king, Netflix.

Amazon Instant Video is an ad-free video on demand service that’s included in the Amazon Prime membership. For those who haven’t heard of it yet, Amazon Prime is a yearly subscription service that brings a ton of benefits to the user, like great offers on all Amazon products, unlimited and free two-day shipping to anywhere in the US, early access to Amazon lightning sales, Amazon Cloud storage for your favorite pictures and videos, Prime Music which gives you ad-free and unlimited access to more than a million songs in the Amazon Library, and so much more. So, even if you’re signing up for this service at the last moment in a hotel room, you get a lot more for your money than just the video library, but it is worth it for that alone.

Contrary to other subscription based services, like Netflix or Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime requires only a yearly payment of USD 99$ (as opposed to Netflix and Hulu Plus’ 8$ monthly sub fee), this payment grants you access to the video on demand service, alongside the other myriad of benefits mentioned above. If you’re looking to enjoy uninterrupted, ad-free entertainment, then consider choosing the Amazon Instant Video service. Contrary to Hulu Plus, which relies on ads to survive, sometimes even featuring a pesky chain of them after each episode of your favorite series, Amazon features zero ads in all its shows. Also, like Netflix, it features the latest seasons of your favorite shows, which usually become available for viewing after the next season starts to air on regular TV.

Netflix may have more content as of now, but consider that this service precedes Amazon Instant Video for almost a decade. And currently, Amazon’s video on demand service is steadily growing by signing feature contracts with major content producers, like HBO. I know you’re going to say next: “Game of Thrones is one of the few titles not included”, however there are many nights I’ve stayed up far too late watching other addicting shows like Deadwood. Besides, you won’t find the great Amazon shopping benefits that come with the Prime subscription on any other video on demand service. Sadly, Amazon’s video on demand service is only available to people living in the United States.

If you’re an American looking for a great video on demand service with tons of benefits, look no further than the Amazon Prime membership, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
