What Can ITIL® Do For Your Business?

In many organizations today, IT is a part of the core function for the operation of the business. IT services can help businesses become more efficient, accessible, and inevitably profitable. Therefore, the performance and security of the IT functions must be of the utmost importance to the company. Improvements to the functionality of the processes can do well for the profitability of the business. Implementing the IT Infrastructure Library® (ITIL®) is a major step towards these improvements.

The list below is a snapshot of some of the benefits a business can realize by implementing the ITIL strategies:

  • Better use of resources
  • Improved IT services
  • Becoming more competitive
  • Elimination of redundancies
  • Improved quality of deliverables
  • Justification of service costs
  • Integrated processes
  • Secured environments
  • Meeting demands of clients
  • Documentation of all processes
  • Improved customer satisfaction
  • Improved productivity
  • Reduced costs

There are many large companies that have implemented these practices and have seen better performance and improved IT Service Management. Examples of such companies are IBM, NASA, Disney, HP, Proctor & Gamble and Caterpillar.

Case Study Findings

Pink Elephant Inc. Consultants in a white paper titled “Benefits of ITIL” documented a case study for a company implementing the ITIL strategies. It found that three areas improved dramatically upon implementation. There were productivity gains which saw a similar output of the company being realized with 50% less staffing required. There was also a 50% reduction in the time taken to resolve any incidents that occurred during production of the deliverable. In addition, the time taken to implement these resolutions/changes was reduced by 30%. The major improvement was the reduction in the overall operational costs with the company maintaining similar output without any significant impact on the process cycles.
