5 Big Hiring Trends in IT Analysis

New Trend Newspaper webAccording to the major global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, the next major demand for IT employment will involve analytics.  The reason given is that projected demand through 2018 is outstripping supply.

Not enough IT professionals are learning data analysis, and the amounts of data are growing exponentially so that it is becoming both more important to understand how to spot trends as well as how to manage the quantity of data.

 Growth of Data

For instance, it is estimated that every sector in the US economy already has about 200 terabytes of data just sitting around waiting for analysis.  Unfortunately, there are not enough people with the skills needed to sort through the data and make useful sense of it all.

This presents enormous opportunities for those who are willing to learn this skill for any time demand overpowers supply, wages increase as companies compete for workers.

The 5 Major Trends in IT Analysis

McKinsey identified five areas where IT analysis will be most needed.  In each of these, highly trained IT professionals will find plenty of ready employers, most of which will also provide employees with both great pay scales and benefits.  These five areas are:

  1. US Healthcare Sector
  2. EU Public Sector
  3. US Retail Sector
  4. Manufacturing
  5. Personal-Location Industry

The need within each is to focus on how to manage the large amounts of data flowing into each of these areas.

Managing means that the IT professional will need to find useful information to help retail corporations improve margins and obtain more customers.  In Healthcare, the driving need will be in understanding how to make the industry more efficient while the United States faces rising costs.  And if manufacturers can better understand trends, they can avoid costly mistakes and streamline operations.

The major problem most organizations are facing today is not the having of data, but rather the having of skilled employees who can sort through the data in a meaningful way.
